The priorities were to increase student recruitment, offer innovative curricula, and deliver exceptional student experiences. All were achieved.

The project capitalised on the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games legacy, positioning the university as an innovative leader in sports education.

EDGE steered this project with a focus on strategic priorities and cost management. We worked with stakeholders and specialist providers to ensure quality, as well as innovation.

The complexities of working within an existing building with varied conditions were addressed, with efforts made to retain valuable elements and manage legacy issues.

The team maintained a cost-driven approach throughout while recognising the importance of the programme constraints. We remained aware of academic timetabling to minimise disruption.

This approach ensured the delivery of a top-tier facility within budget, enhancing BCU’s reputation as the ‘University for Birmingham’.
