This £1.3m refurbishment upgraded and modernised a six storey listed building at the heart of Nottingham College’s city campus. Delivered in a live educational environment, the project involved extensive M&E renewal, internal reconfiguration and sensitive integration of modern interventions to enhance teaching, gallery and retail spaces while protecting the building’s historic character.
Heritage-sensitive and compliant delivery
EDGE supported a heritage-sensitive approach aligned with the constraints of a listed structure, ensuring works complied with Building Regulations and College technical standards. Decisions around façade treatment, window refurbishment and material selection balanced conservation requirements with improved performance, longevity and energy efficiency, supported by careful coordination across six occupied floors.
Value-driven professional service
EDGE’s coordinated cost, project and surveying services focused on minimising disruption and maximising long-term value. Reconfiguration of the ground floor created flexible teaching and gallery spaces, increasing capacity and usability. Structured reporting, robust programme management and close collaboration with estates, security and academic teams ensured delivery to programme within a fully operational building.
